HIGH DESERT RELATIVE CAREGIVERS

High Desert Relative Caregivers (HDRC) is a supportive and educational program working with kinship families in the Victor Valley.

Most of our participants are grandmothers raising their grandchildren. Taking in the child of a relative requires a great deal of adjustment for the caregiver whose peers are preparing for a quiet retirement and also for the children who have often been in homes of drug abuse, neglect, criminal activity and are at risk of falling into the same lifestyle.

Activity Groups for the minors (infants through high school aged) give the caregivers a break and give the kids a safe place to make new friendships, play board-games, make crafts, & enjoy themselves while their Caregivers attend support group sessions or parenting classes featuring Love & Logic curriculum.

Meeting on two Friday nights and every Tuesday morning each month, HDRC provides referrals to local services such as food, clothing, & furniture resources; opportunities for personal growth through counseling; crisis services; and speakers who are experts in the fields of law, health, social issues, or other areas of interest to kinship families.

An Independent Living Program (ILP) helps to prepare teens for adult life with emphasis on education, job application, and daily living skills. Call (760) 843-1953 for further information.

Please visit the HDRC website for more information.
